Uber Will Launch Service in RGV
WESLACO – The ride-sharing company, Uber, is launching their services in the Rio Grande Valley.
Uber will hold an event Wednesday, June 28th, at the Rio Grande Valley Partnership in Weslaco.
Representatives of the company, State Rep. Armando Martinez (D-Weslaco) and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will meet for the announcement.
“We are fortunate that Uber is investing in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Sergio Contreras, president of the Rio Grande Valley Partnership.
Contreras said they’re working with governmental officials to bring more investments to the Valley.
“Texans, from Brownsville to McAllen to Rio Grande City, can now request a ride or earn extra income on their own schedule,” said David Brightman, general manager of Uber Rio Grande Valley. “We are thrilled to expand to this region this summer and enable access to safe, reliable rides at the push of a button.”
A similar ride-sharing application, Lyft, launched their services in the Valley earlier this year.
