With the Memorial Day weekend approaching, the director of Harlingen’s Valley International Airport says there will be an uptick in people coming into the terminal.

“Memorial Day weekend is typically a family holiday,” Valley International Airport Aviation Director Marv Esterly said. “Most people coming to our airport, they're going to transfer into another city. So you can imagine we may not be quite as busy, but those other main hubs that are gathering people from everywhere will be busy."

Esterly says you should consider getting to the airport at least two hours before your flight boards during the holiday weekend, especially if you have bags to check in.

You should also consider downloading your airline's smartphone app to keep track of delays, which are typical.

Another tip that can make traveling a little easier is signing-up for TSA pre-check, which will allow you to skip the long lines at security.
