Rio Grande Valley, TX (KRGV) — The State Department launched a website where anyone can anonymously report visa fraud and misuse, including by companies, schools and law firms.

The deputy secretary of state posted on X saying the Trump administration believes many people engage in visa fraud.

A Rio Grande Valley immigration attorney has concerns the site could open the door for inaccurate reports and a waste of federal resources.

"A third person could perhaps suspect something but that just leads to profiling and it leads us down a slippery road," Immigration Attorney Carlos Garcia said.

Garcia said cross-border work is common in the region.

"Because of the nature of both of our countries and that commerce and families live both on each side, its just very common for people who live in the United States to work in Mexico and people who live in Mexico to work in the United States," Garcia said.

The website lets people submit a person's social media accounts and contact information. A report can lead to a federal investigation.
