EDINBURG – The pastor of a Rio Grande Valley church was arrested this week on aggravated sexual assault charges.

Edinburg police tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS investigators believe this may not be the first time the Mission pastor, Melquisedec Chan, has committed this type of crime.

Authorities say he was arrested after a member of his church reported being sexually assaulted by the 52-year-old.

It started when the woman became sick. She told police she thought the pastor practiced medicine in Mexico, so she invited him to her Edinburg home so he could treat her illness.

She claims that’s when he injected her with an unknown substance and left her unconscious, police say.

Chan is charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree felony, and practicing medicine without a license.

Police are urging anyone else who may have been victimized by Chan to file a police report with their local police department.
