Welder killed following tanker truck explosion at Brownsville worksite
A welder died on Friday following an explosion at a Brownsville worksite, according to Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Hushen.
According to Hushen, the unidentified man was welding the top of a tanker truck when the fumes inside the truck were ignited, causing a shockwave that knocked the man from the top of the truck.
The man was later pronounced dead.
A spokesperson with the Brownsville Police Department said the incident happened Friday shortly after 2 p.m. in the 6500 block of N. Expressway.
Investigators are reaching out to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, police added.
