WESLACO - Winter Texans are starting to relocate in the Rio Grande Valley.

The owner of Welcome Home RGV says approximately 100,000 Winter Texans call South Texas home every year.

For the first part of this decade, the number of Winter Texans has dropped by almost 50,000.

Officials worked over the summer to recruit people. Kristie Collier, owner of Welcome Home RGV, says she is confident this year's numbers will bounce back.

From October to March, Winter Texans give the Valley's economy a boost.

"They generate an economic impact of over $700 million each season. If we were to lose our winter market it would be crippling to our local economy," said Collier.

Teresa Stoffel and her husband are from Missouri; they've been coming to the Valley for the last 12 years.

Stoffel says one of the things she enjoys most about the Valley other than the weather is the food.
