Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Nearly 26,000 ballots have been cast during the first three days of early voting in Cameron County, according to the county's latest unofficial report.
The Brownsville Public Library has become the most popular early voting spot in the county, drawing more than 4,000 voters in that time. The library saw more than 1,500 voters on Wednesday alone.
Some voters, like Randy Rodriguez, said they are willing to wait in line at the library because they enjoy the excitement of voting alongside others.
"It's kind of exciting to see a lot of people really into the race," voter Randy Rodriguez said.
But not everyone is willing to wait. Poll monitor Preetika Bauskar said some voters left without casting a ballot because the lines were too long.
"Most people were between, like, 30 and 45 minutes. And eight people left without voting because the lines were too long," Bauskar said.
Bauskar told Channel 5 News that voters can call the election protection hotline to report long lines and parking concerns.
Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza compared the pace of early voting to a presidential election.
"This is a presidential turnout in a gubernatorial year, which is really exciting because we love it when people are voting," Garza said.
Garza said the library's central location, large parking lot and spacious voting room draw people in. He also said voters can cast their ballots at any of the county's 21 early voting locations.
Garza suggested the Brownsville ISD Administrative Building, New Horizon Health Center and the UTRGV campus as other nearby options in Brownsville.
"So even if you go to Rancho Viejo, which is nearby, you'll find your ballots from Brownsville there," Garza said.
Voters can find their sample ballots and all 21 early voting locations online. They can also call 866-687-8683 if they run into problems casting their ballots.
Early voting runs through Oct. 30, 2026. Election Day is Nov. 3, 2026.
