Alton, TX (KRGV) — The Sharyland Water Supply Corporation says it is flushing water lines after some residents in the Alton area reported dirty water.
Channel 5 News received pictures from viewers showing the discolored water and took the concerns to Sharyland Water Supply Corporation. A representative said the company moved water lines because of construction in the area of Main Avenue and Glasscock Road from a Texas Department of Transportation project and is now flushing water lines.
“We want to reassure our members that Sharyland WSC continues to conduct routine water quality testing and monitoring. Our water also continues to receive appropriate disinfection throughout the distribution system, including the affected areas,” the water supply corporation said in a statement. “It is not uncommon for residual sediment to remain in newly installed waterlines and become noticeable following construction activities.”
The Texas Department of Transportation issued a statement that Sharyland WSC worked on infrastructure close to its old offices on FM 676 and FM 494 and finished that work last Friday. The agency also said Sharyland WSC repaired a water leak under the new roadway on FM 494/Shary Road on Thursday, and that construction did not cause it. Read the statement in full below:
"After speaking with our engineers that have oversight on the roadway construction in the Alton area, it is my understanding that SWSC was working on their infrastructure close to their old offices on FM 676 and FM 494, which were completed last Friday.
They also had a water leak under our new roadway on FM 494 (Shary Road), not caused by construction operations, that they repaired yesterday.
They've had multiple shutdowns for their lines to do pipe relocations, and they have not had any breaks due to TxDOT/contractor operations."
