UTRGV hosting free cancer and diabetes forum in Edinburg

Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is hosting a free community forum on Tuesday, Sept. 29, to discuss diseases common in the Rio Grande Valley, including diabetes and cancer.
Researchers at a lab in McAllen are studying liver cancer cells. Liver cancer is common in the Valley, along with stomach and cervical cancers.
"Very soon those patients will be able to participate in those clinical trials when we are getting a clinical trial on a new drug or a new diagnostic modality," UTRGV cancer, oncology and microbiology professor Subhash Chauhan said.
The forum will be held at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Community Engagement Building in Edinburg, located at 1406 E. Freddy Gonzalez Drive. It starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m.
