RIO GRANDE CITY – A second person was arrested in connection with Starr County’s election fraud investigation.

Starr County District Attorney Omar Escobar confirms to CHANNEL 5 NEWS that 37-year-old Erika Lozano Pelayo was arrested Thursday morning.

Escobar says she is alleged to have turned in a ballot for a person who is deceased.

The ballot was dated after the voter’s death, he says.

Lozano is facing charges of election fraud and fraudulent use of an application for ballot by mail, which are now considered state jail felonies.
