Alton Police Department investigating after vandals cause $1,100 in damage at Garcia Park
Vandals spray-painted a seating area and other items at Garcia Park in Alton, causing more than $1,000 in damage, according to the Alton Police Department.
The total damage came out to $1,100. Alton police shared pictures of the vandalism.
"There is a huge boulder that we have out there that was vandalized, and the smaller ones too," Alton police investigator Leonardo Tijerina said. "They put some words on there too. Ultimately, we do our best to keep the parks very clean, and for someone to just vandalize it is not correct, and there are punishments for that."
The city has already cleaned up the damage and will replace the bench. The Alton Police Department is also looking into surveillance cameras at the trail.
