The Vaqueros basketball season officially started in Edinburg on Tuesday with a pair of blowouts from both the men's and women's programs.

The women's team started with a program record 114 points en route to the win. The team also shot a record-high field goal percentage in the victory, much of which was aided by a perfect night shooting from the field by Rylie Whitehair (19 points on 8/8 FG shooting).

Jesslynn Jalomo and Kamryn McLaurin led the way in the scoring column with 21 points each as every Vaquero managed to score in the win.

The Vaqueros men's basketball team followed that up with a stellar performance of their own against the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas. UTRGV took the 81-51 win, headlined by a 17-0 run that gave the Vaqueros a 20-2 lead to start the game.

B.B. Knight and Caden Bell led the way offensively with 14 points a piece while Terrell Wright's four blocks in just 14 minutes headlined the defensive effort.

The UTRGV men's basketball team will stay at home for the next two games, hosting Prairie View A&M and Texas State. The women's team will hit the road for upcoming matchups against South Dakota and Kansas State.
