Brownsville voters face 15 charter amendments in November election
Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Brownsville voters will decide on 15 charter amendments during the Nov. 3 midterm elections, and Cameron County election officials are suggesting voters review sample ballots before they head to the polls.
Channel 5 News showed Brownsville voters Jody Nagel and Pablo Garcia the same sample ballot that voters will see at the polls.
"I am not familiar with all the amendments. I anticipate looking up information," Brownsville resident Jody Nagel said.
"I have no idea. I actually don't," Brownsville resident Pablo Garcia said. “I really need to pay attention to this now... I am reading it multiple times, and I don't know it anymore.”
Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza says voters should do their research before they go to polling sites.
"They do require some time to read through, so if the first time you are looking at it is when you step into the voting booth, you might take a lot longer to move through your ballot and cast your vote. We recommend people take this time to review the sample ballot," Garza said.
Garza added that knowing what is on the ballot can save time and help prevent long lines at the polls.
"We think that in Brownsville we are going to have more time voters will be taking in the voting booth, so there will be lines as a consequence. So, from our perspective, if you can do your research in advance, you can help eliminate the length of the lines," Garza said.
Sample ballots are available at the Cameron County Election Office and online. Voters can print them and take them to polling sites.
