Cameron County inmate dies after medical emergency at Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, sheriff says
A man died after a medical emergency at the Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center, according to the Cameron County Sheriff's Office.
The emergency happened on Sunday, Sept. 20. Jail and medical staff responded to the inmate before requesting EMS.
The inmate was transported for further medical treatment. He then became unresponsive during the incident and was later pronounced dead.
The Texas Rangers are now leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The Cameron County Sheriff's Office said it is fully cooperating with the Rangers.
A Justice of the Peace was notified, and an autopsy has been ordered. The inmate's next of kin has also been notified.
The investigation remains active and no additional information will be released at this time.
