Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — Cameron County officials want people with pending cases to update their contact information because the county's new e-court calendar program sends text reminders about upcoming hearings.

The county clerk said people could miss a court date if the office does not have a current phone number or address. Missing a court date could lead to consequences.

People should update their information with the Cameron County Clerk's Office if they got a new phone number or moved. The system uses contact information from the clerk's existing case management system to send the reminders.

Cameron County started using the program on Oct. 1, 2026. Currently, it covers people with misdemeanor cases in the county courts at law.

“We want to make sure that the other people who have seen it don't opt out because it is a legitimate message; it is not a spam message, but it does help you to make sure you do make your court date,” Cameron County Clerk Sylvia Garza-Perez said.

People with questions about a reminder or who need to update their information can contact the Cameron County Clerk's Office at 956-544-0815 or 956-544-0867.

The office is still sending notices by mail to people who do not have a cell phone or who prefer a paper notice. The text messages are an additional service.
