Cameron County is looking to hire about 500 election workers ahead of the November midterm.

The Cameron County Elections Department needs workers to staff 21 early voting sites and 58 Election Day locations. Each spot typically needs six to eight workers.

"In the past, we had people not showing up that day, so we had to find people within the group of poll workers that can support that location," Cameron County Election Administrator Remi Garza said. "We've been fortunate we haven't had any poll locations not open on time on Election Day."

Pay varies by role. Judges earn $17 an hour, alternate judges earn $16 an hour, and clerks earn $15 an hour.

To apply, workers must be 18 years old, a Cameron County resident, and a U.S. citizen.
