D.A. Confirms Arrests Made in Connection to Rio Grande City Teen's Murder

RIO GRANDE CITY - Three people were arrested for the murder of 17-year-old Chayse Olivarez.

Olivarez went missing July 30th.

One juvenile was arrested for murder. Starr County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested a second juvenile for the charge of tampering with evidence and failure to report a felony. A third person was arrested for capital murder.

The juveniles will be detained at the Starr County Juvenile Detention facility pending further proceedings.

The Starr County Attorney’s office will handle all proceedings involving the juveniles in juvenile court.

The attorney’s office may commence proceedings to certify the juveniles as adults for prosecution as adults.

The investigation continues by the Texas Rangers, Rio Grande City Police Department, Starr County Sheriff’s Department, 229th District Attorney’s Office and the Starr County Special Crimes Unit.

Officials are asking the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ family during this difficult time.
