DPS Investigates Fatal Crash near Rio Hondo
UPDATE: Authorities have identified the driver of the Ford as 29-year-old Cody Alan Jones of Rio Hondo.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
WESLACO – The Department of Public Safety is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash near Rio Hondo.
The crash occurred Sunday at around 12:00 a.m. on F.M. 106, one mile east of F.M. 2925-Rio Hondo.
Investigators say a 2011 Ford Taurus was traveling west on F.M. 106.
For unknown reasons, the Ford traveled onto the right side shoulder of F.M. 106.
The driver of the Ford overcorrected to its left causing it go travel into a side skid.
The Ford then traveled onto the eastbound lane and drove off the roadway where it struck a metal utility pole.
The driver of the Ford sustained major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
DPS Troopers are further investigating this fatal crash.
