Edinburg officer shot while responding to domestic disturbance
Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — An officer with the Edinburg Police Department was hospitalized Thursday morning following an officer-involved shooting, according to a city spokesperson.
The unidentified officer sustained a gunshot wound while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance at the 200 block of Fig Drive.
According to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, deputies assisted police at the scene that was reported shortly before 9:30 a.m.
"I ask for prayers for the Edinburg officer at this time," Guerra said in a social media post.
An Edinburg city spokesperson said the scene is secured and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Officials previously said the officer was responding to a report of a barricaded suspect, but they clarified Thursday morning that officers originally arrived in response to a domestic disturbance call.
Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Chapin Street and Closner Boulevard as the investigation continues.
