Donna, TX (KRGV) — A former Donna High School teacher turned himself in to police on a child pornography charge, according to Donna Police Chief Gilbert Guerrero.

Eddie Lorenzo Garcia was booked and arraigned Wednesday on the child pornography charge and a charge of criminal trespass. His bond was set at $80,000.

In a statement issued Thursday morning, the Donna Police Department said Garcia's charges stem from "an investigation involving a minor and alleged unauthorized entry into a residence."

According to police, two adult males had entered a home without the homeowner's consent on Sept. 14.

"Investigators reviewed surveillance footage, conducted interviews, executed search warrants, and examined digital evidence. Donna ISD Police assisted by securing devices and forwarding them to Donna police," the department said.

When reached for comment, Donna ISD said Garcia resigned before his arrest. See the district's statement in full below:

"Donna ISD holds all employees to the highest standards of professional conduct and accountability. Upon learning of the initial allegations involving an employee, the district took immediate administrative action, and the employee resigned prior to the arrest. To protect the integrity of the ongoing law enforcement investigation, the district will not provide additional details at this time. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority."

Hidalgo County jail records show Garcia is out on bond as of Thursday morning.
