Former La Joya Housing official pleads not guilty to wire fraud

MCALLEN – A former Rio Grande Valley housing official appeared in federal court Friday.

Frances Salinas plead not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She’s the former interim executive director for the La Joya Housing Authority.

She remains free on bond as she awaits a pretrial hearing scheduled for Feb. 28.

On Thursday, Sylvia Garces Valdez plead not guilty. She’s the former vice chair of the La Joya Housing Authority board.

Valdez is accused of bribing Salinas in exchange for a public relations contract.
