Indicted ICE agent with Valley ties turns himself in to authorities
Houston, TX (KRGV) — An ICE agent with ties to Brownsville is expected to turn himself in at a Houston courthouse Monday after a grand jury indicted him on an aggravated assault charge, his attorney David Lindenmuth told Channel 5 News.
Mario Alberto Morales faces the charge after he allegedly ran over a man with his unmarked SUV in Houston. A grand jury indicted Morales on Friday.
“I think the most efficient way to take care of this was to come and surrender him,” Attorney for Mario Alberto Morales David Lindenmuth said.

Morales’ attorney claims the charges by the local DA are politically motivated against ICE agents. His attorney has also said Morales worked as a detention and processing officer at the Port Isabel Detention Center.
“Mario didn’t intend to hurt anybody. He was doing his job. He was trying to detain somebody who fled in a vehicle which is a felony in Texas,” Lindenmuth said.
The man Morales is accused of hitting suffered a broken leg. He is recovering at a rehabilitation facility under federal custody.
