SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – The sight of more jellyfish at the beach is not a risk to the public.

Cameron County’s Sea Grant Extension said the moon jellyfish seen in some pictures are capable of only a mild sting and, in most cases, doesn’t require medical attention.

They said more jellyfish are being seen now because of a “bloom.”

A bloom is a combination of environmental factors that makes conditions more favorable for jellyfish.
