WESLACO - Events like the El Paso shooting over the weekend can have lasting effects.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to licensed psychologist Joseph McCoy about the effects.

"If you were somebody that was right there and saw some pretty tragic things you're going to feel bad for a while and it may feel unbearable for a few days,” he says.

Mccoy adds parents should keep a careful eye on their kids even in the Rio Grande Valley. 

He adds parents shouldn't be surprised if their child is nervous about visiting their local Walmart.
