MCALLEN - An investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire in McAllen.

The fire happened around 1 p.m. at a home on the 2000 block of Portland Avenue.

Homeowner Carolina Gonzalez said she received multiple calls from an unknown number, which later notified her that her home had gone up in flames.

"The biggest trauma was the drive on the expressway. The line was too long and my granddaughter got out of the car. She was yelling at cars to let us through because her home was burning. They heard us. I don't know how we managed to get here. But when we did, we realized we lost everything," she said.

Gonzalez said she planned on selling the house.

Four pets were inside the home. One dog died in the blaze.

On social media, McAllen city officials reported crews revived two of the animals with pet oxygen masks. Another ran out of the home.

The McAllen Fire Department said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
