A 17-year-old student was arrested after he allegedly threatened to bring a gun to school and named a list of targets, the Elsa Police Department announced in a Wednesday news release.

The threat was reported Tuesday at around 8:19 p.m., when an officer met with a teacher from IDEA Elsa Academy.

The teacher told police the student had made statements to other students during the school day about bringing a firearm to school the next day and having “a list of individuals.”

Other students came forward and gave statements to officers about what they heard, police added.

Officers located the unidentified student at his home and took him into custody without incident. The student will be charged with making a terroristic threat that could cause serious bodily injury, and remains in custody pending arraignment.

The Elsa Police Department said it takes all threats involving schools, students, faculty, and staff seriously.

"We commend the students and school personnel who came forward and promptly reported the alleged threat," the Elsa Police Department said. "Their willingness to speak up allowed law enforcement to immediately investigate the matter and take appropriate action."

The investigation is ongoing, and police said no additional information will be released at this time.
