McAllen, TX (KRGV) — The McAllen International Airport is adding more parking as part of a nearly $2 million parking project to keep up with demand, according to the city.

The new lots include an economy and cellphone lot.

The new lot will open Nov. 1, 2026. The first 30 minutes in the cellphone lot are free.

The airport also added a new parking lot for employees.

The east lot is now an economy lot with an $11 daily rate. The previous employee lot has also been moved to a new location across the street.

“We’re going up to about 1,600 total parking spaces for the airport,” McAllen International Airport Director Jeremy Santoscoy said. “We have had some challenges with capacity. We have had several years when we've had to almost every weekend be closing the long-term and then shifting everybody to our employee overflow parking lot.”

The airport says passenger numbers have grown from about 847,000 in 2021 to more than 1.1 million in 2025.

The project took more than one year to complete.

A list of parking rates for the airport is available online.
