MCALLEN - The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is assisting McAllen Police with a fatal hit-and-run.

They’re investigating the Downtown McAllen Nightclub that might have sold alcohol to a minor.

Jorge Luis Garcia, 19, is charged with intoxication manslaughter and an accident involving death.

Garcia fled the scene after striking 38-year-old Marco Antonio Ortiz with his vehicle.

The manager of a restaurant downtown, Ian Wetsby, says his staff is trained to validate ID’s.

“You do get hassled by the parents who are trying to have a nice dinner and drink with their son and daughter. And I understand that; but again it is the law,” says Wetsby.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to TABC officer, Mario Villarreal about the importance of validating ID’s and limiting those people who have had too much.
