Teen Driver in Fatal Hit-and-Run Charged, Underage Drinking to Blame

The incident happened on the 200 block of South Bicentennial Blvd early Saturday morning.

UPDATE (4/16): A Rio Grande Valley teenager accused in a deadly hit-and-run accident is out on bond. 

McAllen police say Jorge Luis Garcia was the driver in the crash that allegedly killed Marco Ortiz. 

According to court records, he told police he allegedly paid a bar employee $40 to allow him to drink, along with his girlfriend. 

Garcia failed several sobriety tests; he was arrested and so was his girlfriend. 

Garcia was charged with intoxication manslaughter with vehicle and accident involving death.

MCALLEN – The man responsible of a fatal hit-and-run in McAllen over the weekend has been charged.

McAllen police charged 19-year-old Jorge Luis Garcia with intoxication manslaughter and with accident involving personal injury or death.

The incident happened on the 200 block of South Bicentennial Blvd early Saturday morning.

Garcia fled the scene after striking 38-year-old Marco Antonio Ortiz with his vehicle.

Police located and arrested the suspect vehicle near the McAllen Convention Center.

Garcia’s bond is set for $75,000.
