A McAllen orthodontic office has shut down without warning, leaving patients out of thousands of dollars and with unfinished dental treatment.

Senan Orthodontic Studios closed its doors, but patients say they never received any notice from the office.

Ana Tamez has been a patient at the office for two years. Bank statements show she paid about $4,000 for braces.

She said she was just days away from having them removed and getting a retainer when she realized something was wrong.

"I was calling because I needed some details on the appointment, and the phone just kept hanging up," Tamez said.

She turned to social media for answers.

"I checked on Facebook just to see if there was like maybe a different number, maybe they changed their number, all to find out that they actually had shut down," Tamez said.

Tamez was not the only patient caught off guard. Channel 5 News started getting messages from patients two weeks ago.

Channel 5 News spoke to Baldemar Perez, who said he paid more than $7,000 up front for treatment for his two children.

"We never saw any of this coming; it was honestly a shock to us," Perez said. "It's frustrating because now we need to find another orthodontist; we have to pay over again."

Perez said his children's treatment was never finished.

"My wife was not able to get an appointment because, supposedly, the doctor that was running the office was not available," Perez said.

After speaking with Perez, Channel 5 News went to the office. It was closed, but a notice on the door said Dr. Senan was on medical leave and the office would reopen July 20, 2026. That never happened.

A new notice on the door states the landlord changed the locks on the property due to the tenant's failure to pay rent.

Channel 5 News sent an email Wednesday to the address found on the orthodontist's website and did not receive a response by the time this story aired on Friday night.

The office phone number listed is no longer in service.

Channel 5 News also called the landlord's phone number listed on the sign on the office door, but no one answered.

Channel 5 News asked the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners whether it was aware of patient complaints. In a statement, the board said its investigative files are confidential, but encouraged patients whose dental practice closes unexpectedly to file a complaint. 

The board said that can allow the board to investigate and help patients obtain their dental records.

Tamez filed a report with the McAllen Police Department and is now seeking legal advice about getting her money back. She says she will have to pay about $800 to have her braces removed elsewhere and get a retainer.

Perez said his family will also have to find another orthodontist to finish his children's treatment.

"It's our money. It's our hard work and our money," Tamez said.
