Edinburg, TX (KRGV) — Republican Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton made campaign stops in Brownsville and Edinburg Thursday as he asked for votes in the race to replace outgoing Sen. John Cornyn.

Paxton, who is running against Democrat James Talarico, said on Wednesday the race is a dead heat.

Paxton met with voters at Palenque Grill in Brownsville before heading to a rally in downtown Edinburg at The Citrus Live theater.

During his campaign stop, Paxton focused on affordability and outlined his proposals if elected to the Senate.

“It means a $25,000 deduction for out-of-pocket medical expenses for every single person in your family,” Paxton said. “It means you can own a home with a historic $50,000 payment deduction. And maybe my favorite — we call it the healthy living deduction. It’s a deduction for gym memberships, nutrition programs, youth sports, and even physician prescribed GLP-1s.”

Paxton also proposed doubling the child tax credit if elected. Talarico is scheduled to make a campaign stop in Weslaco on Sunday, Oct. 25.

Early voting runs through Oct. 30, 2026. Election Day is Nov. 3, 2026.
