Plea deal being sought for Edinburg man accused of killing motorcyclist
A 20-year-old Edinburg man may get five years deferred adjudication if he accepts a plea deal in connection with a deadly crash.
Kevin Alfredo Gonzalez is charged with criminal negligent homicide after authorities said he fatally struck a motorcyclist in a Jan. 12, 2024 crash.
During a Wednesday hearing, prosecutors said they recommend a sentence of five years of deferred adjudication and a $3,000 fine and restitution. A hearing was set for July 29 for Gonzalez to decide if he’ll take the plea deal.
As previously reported, Isaiah Angelo Torres died in the crash near Palmview on La Homa Road near West Mile 4 Road when authorities said he was struck by a vehicle driven by Gonzalez.
Gonzalez attempted to make an “unsafe” turn in the crash.
The indictment against Gonzalez identifies him as the driver who caused the death of Torres “while operating a motor vehicle, turning from an improper lane, onto a private driveway, failing to yield the right of way, turning when unsafe, and failing to keep proper lookout for traffic,” and causing the crash.
Hidalgo County jail records show Gonzalez was arrested on June 2, 2025, and released on a $20,000 bond four days later.
