Hidalgo County Courthouse closure extended following vehicle crash
The Hidalgo County Courthouse will remain closed on Wednesday, Sept. 2, and Thursday, Sept. 3.
The courthouse was originally scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, but Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra announced the closure has been extended.
Officials are continuing assessing the damage done to the building after a suspected drunk driver crashed into the building late Sunday night.

Jesus Alaniz Jr. was identified as the driver. He remains hospitalized in critical condition and will face a DWI charge once he is released from the hospital.
County officials met with engineers and reviewed the damage done to the building. They decided the courthouse should remain closed until it is deemed safe to reopen.
