A juvenile was arrested Monday after robbing a business and fleeing the scene, according to the Weslaco Police Department.

The unidentified juvenile suspect was recognized from previous encounters with police, according to Weslaco police spokesman Heriberto Caraveo.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at a business Monday at the 1600 block of N. Texas Boulevard Monday at around 4:45 p.m.

According to police, the suspect “walked into the business and announced an armed robbery while having both hands inside his sweater.”

Caraveo added that no weapons were displayed during the incident.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and recognized the juvenile suspect, according to Caraveo. The suspect was taken into custody at a residence near the intersection of Calle Lee Garza and Sinclair Avenue at around 5 p.m. Monday.

Channel 5 News cameras were rolling as police arrived to the residence.

The suspect is being charged with aggravated robbery and the investigation remains ongoing, Caraveo said.
