Rio Grande City, TX (KRGV) — The Rio Grande City Police Department is investigating whether the same man stole packages from two homes after surveillance video showed a theft at a home, Police Chief Jose Solis said.

Solis says he is aware of a second reported theft in the Alto Bonito area about 15 miles away. He says both cases are under investigation.

Rio Grande City resident Leanne Gallegos says someone took a package from her front porch on Oct. 7, that contained an Apple Watch.

When she got home, she realized the package was missing and checked her surveillance video. Gallegos says one clip shows where FedEx left the package and another from three minutes later shows a man walking up to the house and taking it.

She says the man wore a navy blue shirt, jeans, tennis shoes and a cap. Gallegos filed a report with the police department.

Gallegos shared the video on social media, hoping someone could identify the person. She says other people also came forward and made her think the same person has been doing this to others.

About 15 miles away in the Alto Bonito area, another homeowner reported a package theft to the Starr County Sheriff's Office. The homeowner said the package held clothing worth about $400.

Home surveillance video in that case also shows a person walking up to a house and taking a package.

Solis says the videos look like they show the same person.

He says his department typically sees these cases around this time of year. He says people should track their packages and be ready to pick them up and move them inside.

Solis says police arrested one person last month in a package theft case and that person now faces theft charges.

Gallegos says she plans to install more surveillance cameras and have future packages shipped to a family member's home.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the person in the surveillance video to contact the Rio Grande City Police Department. Anonymous tips are also accepted.
