Rio Hondo's city administrator has resigned and the city's police chief will step in as interim leader.

Ben Medina Jr. stepped down as city administrator, effective Aug. 11, the city said in a social media statement published on Thursday.

“Mr. Medina has served the city of Rio Hondo for many years in the role of city administrator. The city thanks him for his service and wishes him well in his future endeavors,” the city said.

The city commission appointed Rio Hondo Police Chief Julian Longoria as interim city administrator.

“Longoria will serve in this capacity while the city evaluates next steps regarding the position of city administrator,” the city said. “The city remains committed to providing quality municipal services to residents and maintaining the continuity of daily operations throughout this transition.”
