Several Cars Burned in Progreso Fire, Cause Under Investigation

PROGRESO – The Progreso Volunteer Fire Department and Weslaco Fire Department responded to a blaze before noon.

Crews received a call around 11:54 a.m. about a fire in the area of Shirel and Yasmin streets in Progreso.

The fire departments arrived on scene and put out the blaze. They remain on scene putting out any hot spots to prevent the flames from reigniting.

Authorities said there were no reported injuries.

An ambulance was still called to the scene as a precaution.

Weslaco Fire Chief Antonio Lopez said seven cars were burned in the blaze, as well as a garage port and the back portion of the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
