Sharyland ISD Officials Hold Meeting to Address Hazing Incident
MISSION – A hazing incident is playing out at Sharyland Independent School District. The alleged behavior reportedly happened during an athletic event in Corpus Christi.
Limited information was released. The school district says they were recently made aware of the incident.
Corpus Christi police are leading the investigation. CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to both Corpus Christi police and Corpus Christi ISD police for comment. They were not able to provide information on what we described.
On Wednesday night, a special board meeting was called where several resident spoke up, asking the board to do something about the issue.
“I know you all are going to do something. I know you're not going to take a blind eye, like the community is saying. I don't think you're going to do that. I know you're going to do something,” said Gilda Rodriguez.
In a statement, the district’s superintendent says an internal investigation was conducted and authorities were notified.
The superintendent mentioned because of the nature of the allegations and involvement of students, no other details are being released; adding they are taking the misconduct seriously.
