Rio Grande City, TX (KRGV) — Rio Grande City is opening a shelter at its public safety building at midnight as rain continues in the area.

The Rio Grande City area received the most rain in the past 24 hours, though no major issues were reported.

Fire Chief Manuel Muniz said all crews are staying in touch and will coordinate as needed.

"We have a group chat here in the county with all the departments, the head of the departments and we were keeping in track that way where was it raining the most and we were going to help each other out if we needed the help," Fire Chief Manuel Muniz said.

The shelter will stay open through 8 a.m. Monday morning. Residents will need to bring their own medications, pillow and bedding. No pets are accepted.
