UTRGV women's soccer has been on a roll lately having won three games in a row, keeping a cleat sheet in those matches. 

On Tuesday morning, the team learned two players had received Southland Conference honors. Sophomore defender Sienna Church was named Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore goalkeeper Mariana Amezcua took Goalkeeper of the Week.

"We're proud and happy for the young ladies that were awarded over the last two weeks, but it's a team award," UTRGV women's soccer head coach Nataki Stewart said.

"Obviously, I feel super blessed," Church added. "Coming into the season, one of the biggest goals was to get defensive player of the week, so I'm very excited for that, but honestly it was a team effort. I wouldn't have been able to do it without my backline and the entire team."

Now, the focus shifts towards Thursday's road match against Sam Houston with the goal of extending the win streak to four in a row. The Vaqueros have one win, two losses, and a draw against the Bearkats.

The first whistle is set for 7 pm in Huntsville, Texas.
