Two Texas county judges are putting their courthouse wardrobes on the line ahead of a college football game.

Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez and Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai made a friendly wager tied to Saturday's game between the UTRGV Vaqueros and UTSA Roadrunners at the Alamodome.

The loser has to wear a shirt or jersey and a cap from the winning university at their next commissioners' court meeting.

If UTRGV wins, Judge Sakai will show up to the next Bexar County Commissioners Court meeting in UTRGV gear. If UTSA wins, Judge Cortez will wear UTSA gear to the next Hidalgo County Commissioners Court meeting.

Both courts hold their next meetings on Sept. 15.

This will be UTRGV’s second game of the season after defeating the UT Permian Basin Falcons 44-0.

Saturday’s game will be UTSA’s season opener.

"Judge Sakai and I may be on the same team when it comes to serving South Texas, but come game day, it's definitely 956 vs. 210," Cortez said in a statement. "I'm proud to stand behind our Vaqueros and I have a feeling Judge Sakai is going to have to make room in his closet for some UTRGV gear. May the best team win, but we're expecting that team to be the Vaqueros!"
