Suspect arrested after police shooting in Weslaco

The Weslaco Police Department released new details Monday about a shooting that involved multiple officers.

At about 11:10 p.m. on Sunday, police officers responded to a disturbance on the 800 block of East Washington Street.

"As officers arrived, the suspect fled the area eventually leading officers on a vehicle pursuit," according to a statement released by the police department. "Another officer made contact with victims and witnesses on scene and determined the suspect had committed an assault with a deadly weapon."

After what police described as a "vehicle pursuit," the person returned to the 800 block of East Washington Street.

"As officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, he drove his vehicle toward officers at which point they discharged their service weapons in an attempt to stop the threat," according to the statement.

The suspect, who police didn't identify by name, was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another person, who police described as a "victim," was also transported to a local hospital.

"The suspect is facing the following charges, Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon, Assault Family Violence, Evading Arrest w/motor vehicle, and Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant," according to the statement.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.
