The Brownsville Porter Cowboys made the playoffs last season for the first time in 10 years, and this year, they're embracing the motto, "Let's run it back," as motivation to return to the postseason for the second straight season.

"It was very exciting in the moment," senior center Nicolai Gonzalez said. "I know the last time we made playoffs was 2015-2016, and just to be back there again and show the schools in Brownsville that porter can make it as well."

The team has seven returners for this upcoming season, most of them on offense. Porter head football coach Carlos Uresti mentioned that the defense has several new faces and is confident everyone will be on the same page by the time the season gets rolling.

"We feel comfortable on the offensive side," Coach Uresti added. "We got to build the trenches which is where you win or lose games, so we're excited about the young guys that are ready to step in. We've been putting that in their heads in the offseason so kind of ready for the season and see where they're at."

Brownsville Porter begins the regular season at home on August 27th against Donna North. This year, the Cowboys are competing in District 15-5A DII alongside two Corpus Christi teams, Gregory-Portland and Corpus Christi Ray. Those games take place on October 1st and 15th at Sams Memorial Stadium. They wrap up district play at home on November 5th against Mercedes.
