WESLACO – After being declared disabled, a Rio Grande Valley man says he lost power, which he needs to keep his medications cool.

Guadalupe Gonzalez says he was diagnosed with depression, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.

He explains he was surprised to see what happened after an unplanned visit to the doctor. His power was disconnected so he called 5 ON YOUR SIDE for help.

KRGV’s Carolina Cruz found out people in similar situations can prevent an essential utility from being disconnected.

Anyone who is disabled can apply with the Public Utility Commission of Texas when they fall behind on payments.

The customer and their physician fill out a form which is sent to the energy provider so that the power is not disconnected.
