Pharr, TX (KRGV) — Volunteers still have a chance to sign up for an event to plant trees in Pharr.

The 32nd annual Rio Reforestation event will happen Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, at the Milagro Tract, located at 904 W. Doffin Rd. in Pharr.

Organizers say the trees were grown from seeds collected throughout the region. The event will run from around 8 a.m. until around noon.

"As of today, we have more than 1,100 volunteers that have registered to join us and we're super excited to welcome them," Community Resilience at American Forests Senior Manager Mylen Arias said. "We see a lot of schools being represented. Big shout out to IDEA Public Schools, especially IDEA Los Encinos and IDEA Edinburg coming in with 130 and with 75 students so far."

Volunteers are asked to bring shovels, sturdy shoes, a hat and water.
