Weslaco and Mercedes partner to repair pothole-riddled road
Neighbors living along a pothole-riddled road between Mercedes and Weslaco could soon see relief.
Weslaco city commissioners agreed to work with Mercedes to reconstruct Mile 2 1/2 Road between Expressway 83 and Pike Boulevard.
The agreement allows both cities to share the costs of maintaining and repairing the road.
"With the growth of the city of Weslaco and all of these businesses popping up in that area, we want to make sure that we're able to fix the streets that are in bad shape," Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the city still has to meet with Mercedes city officials to confirm construction details.
Mercedes city commissioners approved working with Weslaco on repairing the road last month following a 5 On Your Side story where a Mercedes resident claimed the pothole-damaged road caused $1,000 in repairs for her vehicle.
