Weslaco leaders approve ordinance limiting vape shop operating hours
Weslaco, TX (KRGV) — Weslaco city leaders on Tuesday approved a new ordinance that limits vape shop hours and addresses new state laws on illegal products.
Under the new rule, vape shops can operate from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, they can open from 10 a.m. to midnight.
The ordinance ends overnight operations. The changes affect three vape shops, including two that were open 24 hours and one that stayed open until 2 a.m.
“There have been some robbery incidents, and what we are trying to do is protect the business itself, and then any activity that goes on — so that was our reasoning for the hours,” Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez says vape shops that do not follow the rules could face a $2,000 fine. Two or more additional violations within a year can lead to a license suspension or a permit revocation.
