Cameron County ties Saronic Technologies tax break to local hiring rules

Saronic Technologies must meet key requirements in order to keep the 95 percent tax break agreement with Cameron County.
To maintain that tax break year after year, the company must prove at least 35 percent of its workers live in the Rio Grande Valley.
The county verifies those reports every year.

"If that's the case for a particular year, then they will not receive the abatement for that particular year. We want to make sure that 35 percent of the workers are local and they want to make sure of that so they get their tax abatement," Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr. said.
Treviño said the hope is that these jobs keep workers in the Valley and bring back people who already left the area.
