Brownsville, TX (KRGV) — The city of Brownsville and the Brownsville Independent School District signed a new agreement to share sports facilities.
It is the first agreement they have signed in about 12 years, officials said. The deal gives the school district access to the city's golf center and sports park.
"There are certain parts of the city that we don't have a park facility, but there's a school. So now we can offer parks and recreation programs in that region of the city through the school platform," Brownsville Parks and Recreation Director Sean De Palma said.
Under the agreement, the city can use school gyms and athletic fields for youth recreation programs, while both city and school district police departments coordinate facility security.
