Alamo, TX (KRGV) — The Sgt. Fernando De La Rosa Memorial Library in Alamo will soon offer free mental health workshops.

People will be able to take part in activities like yoga and art classes. The library is also partnering with the UTRGV School of Medicine to help people who are struggling mentally.

Officials said the need for the services is in response to the March 2025 floods.

“People got flooded, and they were stuck in their vehicles, so that brought a lot of stress to families and children," library director Joe Tamez said. "We get a lot of people coming into the library, and you can see on their faces that they’re stressing.”

The library will use a $46,000 grant from the Hogg Foundation to pay class instructors. Workshops will begin in January.
